The group, NovEire, was founded in 2009. It consists of friends and family who have bonded over their love for celtic music. All four members of the group hail from Ireland and Nova Scotia. Padraig Bailey comes to us from Dublin, Ireland where he entertained audiences with his voice and guitar for decades. He belonged to a group well known as “Pete St. John and Company”, whose music can still be heard over the airwaves throughout the country. Desmond Quinn and his daughter,Geraldine Quinn MacWilliams, hail from Belfast, Northern Ireland. They moved to Canada in the mid seventies where Desmond and his family started a branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann in Saskatchewan. They then brought their Irish traditions to Ontario and have continued to play and promote traditional Irish music weekly. Desmond brings to the group his love for the tunes and songs which can be heard through his whistle and guitar playing. Geraldine started her love for music quite early, mastering the accordion and bodhran at a very young age. With an Irish dancing background, her rhythmical accordion is an integral component of the group’s sound. Bonnie White Quinn comes from beautiful Nova Scotia. Steeped in Scottish culture, she enjoys bending the rules and injects Scottish/East Coast songs into the ”Irish Flavour” of the group. The group’s lilting sounds of traditional Irish tunes combined with Irish and East Coast songs lend to a blended taste of celtic richness that all can enjoy.
